Working With Brushes and Gradients
Most of the tools in IcoFX use brushes or gradients. For example the rectangle tool can be filled with a gradient, the eraser tool can erase using different brushes.
To select the brush that will be used for painting use the Brushes Panel
IcoFX supports also dynamic brushes that can change during painting.
You can create new brushes or edit existing ones using the Brush Editor dialog. Select the brush that you want to edit in the Brushes Panel and press the "Edit Brush..." toolbar button.
On the lower part of the Brush Editor dialog you can see a preview of the brush based on the selected settings. You can change the color of the brush preview by double clicking on it and selecting a new color. On the top of the dialog you can enter a name for the brush in the "Name" field.
This is the main part of the Brush Editor dialog. On the "Brush" tab you can load the mask image that will be the brush. The image must be a 100x100 PNG image and the alpha channel of the image will be used as mask. You can create such images in IcoFX.
Using the "Size" slider you can set the default size of the rush. This size will be used when you select the brush in the Brushes panel. Using the "Angle" slider you can rotate the mask image at a given angle. Using the Width and Height sliders you can change distort the mask image. The Spacing specifies how much space will be left between two brush drawing when painting.
Brush Shape Properties
On the "Shape Dynamics" tab of the Brush Editor dialog you can set the dynamic properties of the brush. You can choose a size, angle, width and height jitter value. Each time the brush is painted on the image it will have a slightly different size, angle, width and height based on the chosen jitter values. A small jitter percent will change the brush only a little while a greater value will make bigger changes on the brush.
Brush Color Properties
On the "Color Dynamics" tab of the Brush Editor dialog you can set the dynamic color properties of the brush. You can choose a hue, saturation, brightness and opacity jitter value. Each time the brush is painted on the image it will have a slightly different color based on the selected jitter values.
On the "Scattering" tab of the Brush Editor dialog you can set the horizontal and vertical scattering of the brush. If you leave it at 0 percent The brush will follow exactly the move of the mouse pointer. A greater scatter value will add a random value to the x and y position of the mouse pointer and the brush will be painted on that position.↑ Top of PageContent
