Extract Icon Dialog

Using the Extract dialog we can extract icons from Windows resource files like exe, dll, ocx and Macintosh resource files.

IcoFX can extract Windows Vista icons (PNG compressed) also. IcoFX does not fully support 16-bit resource files. If you extract an icon from a 16-bit resource file only th 32x32 image will be extracted and the transparecy will be lost.

Under Windows Vista you cannot extract from 16-bit files because Microsoft dropped the backward compatibility for this files since they are deprecated.

You can extract icons also from Macintosh resource files (Macintosh Resource Fork (*.res, *.rsrc)). It can handle also Macintosh resources that are inside MacBin, AppleSingl or AppleDouble files.

When we try to extract from a resource file this dialog is automatically shown. It contains a list of the icons in the resource file. We can see after the name of the icon the number of images that it contains. If we select more than one icon then all the selected icons will be opened in the IcoFX workspace for editing. You have to save each one separately. If you want to extract all the icons from an icon without editing then use the Batch Process Dialog.
