Import Image Dialog

The Import Image Dialog will help you to create icons from your favorite images.

Import Image Dialog

By default this dialog will show up every time you try to import an image. You can change this behavior in the Action tab of the Preferences dialog.

Using this dialog you can select the part of an image that you would like to convert into an icon. On the image you will have a selection. The area covered by the selection will be converted to an icon. To select a part of the image resize the selection that is on the image. You can also move the selection by dragging it.

Info: If you hold down the Ctrl key while dragging, the image will be dragged not the selection.

You can select the selection size. If you choose "Custom" then you can resize the selection to the desired size. If you choose "Fixed" then the selection will have a predefined size, you can only move the selection.

In the Action group box you can select the action to perform when the size of the selection is larger than the size of the icon image. You have two option: to resize the selection or to crop the selection.

You can also set the transparency of the icon. You have three options:

  • As is: The transparency of the image will not be changed.
  • Left Bottom pixel: All the pixels that have the same color, as the left bottom pixel of the selection will be transparent.
  • Custom: You can specify the transparent color of the image. To choose the color you can use the Color button (this will pop up a color selection dialog), or you can use the Color Picker to select the color directly from the image.

The dialog also contains a preview of the icon. Here you can see how your icon will look like.

There are four buttons on the bottom of the dialog. These control the way that the image is displayed. You can zoom in or out, fit the image on the screen or view it in its original size.
